This week, police investigators in Prince George’s County apprehended a 14-year-old girl who was allegedly instrumental in a planned attempted murder attack aboard a school bus, though the plot was foiled by a malfunctioning gun.

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Monday, May 1, as a bus stopped at Iverson Street and Sutler Drive to drop off students, three suspects - at least one of whom had a handgun - came on board and began to attack their victim, who remained on the bus.

During the assault, one of the assault pulled out a handgun and attempted to shoot the minor multiple times, but detectives believe that the weapon malfunctioned, and ammo was found on the bus during the subsequent investigation.

Earlier this month, a 14-year-old from Suitland and 15-year-old from Temple Hills were arrested and charged for their alleged role in the assault.

They are being tried as an adult with:

  • First-degree attempted murder;
  • Second-degree attempted murder;
  • Assault;
  • “Additional charges.”

The teen girl will also reportedly be tried as an adult on similar charges. A third suspect also remains at large.

"We take these charges seriously. We take their actions seriously,” State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy said after the bond hearing for a 14-year-old girl charged in connection with the alleged attack on a school bus. “We will pursue these cases in the interest of justice and public safety.”
